INCLEMENT WEATHER

Hong Kong has a sub-tropical climate with distinct seasons.  Typhoon season begins in May and ends in November.  When a typhoon is approaching, warnings are broadcast on television and radio.  There are various degrees of warning signals issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, but when the number 8 signal is in place, most of the city closes down, all schools close.  There is a separate warning system for heavy rain.

You can find detailed and up-to-date weather information on the Hong Kong Observatory Website.

If the school is closed due to severe weather, class teachers will make materials available on the VLE for children to use at home. Teachers will also hold short Zoom sessions to check in with children at 9 am and 2 pm.

* Please note that this routine is subject to local conditions on the day and that children’s participation is optional.  In the event of the black rainstorm and/or T9 (or above) being hoisted, ESF policy is for families and staff to prioritise their safety, and no online student work will be provided in these circumstances.

The information below outlines inclement weather procedures.
