A key motivation at Glenealy School is to cultivate a sense of belonging among all members of our community. Through our curriculum, our social experiences and our community events, we aim to facilitate an open engagement with shared human values and experiences.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental to our mission. We are dedicated to fostering a school and community environment that is welcoming and safe for everyone.
We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential for ensuring that all children and family members feel a sense of belonging. Every child deserves the opportunity to explore and develop their unique identities.
Learning Diversity
Glenealy School embraces learning diversity and strives to create an inclusive educational environment that meets the unique needs of all students. Understanding that each child possesses different learning styles, abilities, and strengths, Glenealy School employs a personalised approach to education.
Through differentiated instruction, specialised support services, and individualised learning plans, the school ensures that every student receives the necessary resources and accommodations to excel both academically and socially. The dedicated team of educators and support staff collaborates closely with students, parents, and external professionals to provide targeted interventions, assistive technologies, and tailored learning experiences.
Glenealy School emphasises the importance of positive and nurturing relationships within its community. A key motivation is to cultivate a sense of belonging among all members. Through our curriculum, social experiences, and community events, we aim to foster open engagement with shared experiences. By valuing and celebrating learning diversity, Glenealy School nurtures a supportive community where every student can reach their fullest potential.
Promoting Positive Relationships
Glenealy students strive to be kind, inclusive and empathetic citizens who demonstrate responsibility towards others and the world around us. Promoting positive relationships is an essential element in ensuring this can happen, and is the responsibility of everyone in our school community as it underpins our provision of effective learning and teaching, and sets solid foundations for children as they grow and develop.
Promoting positive relationships supports us in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, strengthening social and emotional skills, and enabling students and adults to work collaboratively to achieve their very best.
Children across the school have worked through a process of suggesting and prioritising the rights they feel are most important in protecting us and supporting us with our learning at school. The rights most important to the children are captured in our charter:
- Everyone has a right to safety
- Everyone has a right to be happy and belong
- Everyone has a right to respect
Alongside this charter, we have also built a set of agreements that are designed to protect our rights, and support our commitment to act responsibly within the school community.
Restorative Practice
When relationships go wrong we coach children with ways to rebuild the relationship and to move forward positively. We acknowledge that everyone makes mistakes and we must learn from these and make good choices. When behaviours are unexpected, we encourage students to discuss what the expected choice would be and how they would show this in the future.
We use restorative practice when managing unexpected behaviour. Teachers and students meet together during a ‘restorative conversation’ to reflect on what went wrong and the consequences of their behaviour on others. Through this, relationships can be repaired and those involved are able to move on in a positive way in their future interactions and relationships.
