As part of the English Schools Foundation(ESF), our students are supported by the largest English-medium international school organisation in Hong Kong, providing them the resources and opportunities not found outside of ESF Schools.
A key motivation at Glenealy School is to cultivate a sense of belonging among all members of our community. Through our curriculum, our social experiences and our community events, we aim to facilitate open engagement with shared human values and experiences.
Our pedagogical practices are used to engage children in exploring the environment around them, make connections to their world and encourage them to take action.
To nurture curious, connected collaborators, we cultivate an overall educational approach that inspires learning both inside and beyond the classroom, fostering a sense of belonging, trust, and creativity. By promoting inclusivity and connection, we create a supportive community where every student feels valued and empowered to contribute.
Our extensive ECA programme unlocks diverse learning beyond the classroom - from performances to tournaments, enriching students with over 70 engaging experiences each year.
Learning grows the more children, peers, adults & the community are connected to it. We are dedicated to cultivating strong community engagement through partnerships that forge community spirit.
Glenealy School is proud to offer a Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum that provides progressive and innovative learning experiences for your children. Our curriculum is grounded in the principles of an International Baccalaureate (IB) education, which emphasizes holistic development and cultivating lifelong learners.
At Glenealy School, our PYP Programme aims to empower your children to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and compassionate global citizens. We invite you to join us in this exciting journey as partners in your child's education.
At Glenealy, we wholeheartedly celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion, actively embracing the evolving needs of our community. Our goal is to create learning environments where every child feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to thrive.
We immerse our students in the beauty of the natural environment through engaging field trips, outdoor learning, and projects that cultivate a sense of environmental stewardship from an early age. Our adventure camps and cultural immersion trips provide transformative experiences that enhance teamwork, promote personal growth, and broaden global perspectives. These unforgettable opportunities are truly highlights of the Glenealy experience.
We empower our students through leadership opportunities that allow them to express their ideas and drive positive change within our community. Our House Leaders organize events that promote teamwork and school spirit, while Student Ambassadors help connect new students and families. This engagement fosters a sense of ownership and belonging, inspiring everyone to actively participate in school life.
Our dynamic after-school program and sports teams provide over 100 diverse experiences, designed to develop skills, nurture talents, and foster collaboration with other schools. These enriching opportunities not only enhance individual growth but also promote teamwork and community engagement.
We celebrate the vibrant world of creativity through both visual and performing arts. Our students are encouraged to explore and express their artistic talents in diverse ways, including painting, sculpture, music, dance, and theatre. This varied approach allows them to discover their passions and develop their unique voices in a supportive environment.

“As a new parent at Glenealy, I’ve felt welcomed from the start. The teachers are approachable, and school events and the parent-teacher association make it easy to connect with other families. It didn’t take long to feel part of the community, and I’m confident my children are receiving a well-rounded education.”

“We asked our kids why they love school so much and these are some of the responses they give: “Teachers are kind and they teach kids to be kind and caring”; “We’re learning new things everyday and it’s fun learning”. Our kids are very proud to be a part of ESF Glenealy, they wake up, every morning, full of energy and looking forward to going to school. This is such a great experience as parents.”

What attracted us to Glenealy was its small size and it being a local community school. Walking our children to school and meeting other families along the way is a great way to get to know the students and their families. With only 2 classes per year the children (and parents) get to know each other very well and this helps foster a great sense of belonging and friendship.

"33 years doing what I loved the most, and now in the twilight of my years, with the help of social media and the internet, find myself shrouded in memories and still, even now at 82, teaching the children of children I taught in Glenealy. Now living in Surrey UK, I can sit and revel in the number of Hong Kong visitors who found time to visit me and to listen to the many ‘Life after Glenealy
stories.’
My aim in those early years was simply to arouse a thirst for music and drama and through fun and performance, promote confidence in communication. We now see ex Glenealians, leaders in their chosen fields all around the world, standing up and making themselves heard.
Long may it continue.
My very best wishes to the Principal, teachers, educational assistants, pupils and wonderful site staff. So many happy memories!"

"Attending Glenealy Junior School in the late '70s to early '80s was formative and memorable. Miss Handyside, both feared and respected, set high standards that shaped our work ethic and values. Her discipline created a strong foundation, while the friendships and unique school spirit made those years unforgettable."

“As a Glenealy alumnus, it’s exciting to have sent all three of my children to the school at which I grew up, while at the same time experiencing how in the intervening years, Glenealy has transformed from strength to strength, still providing a solid foundation where each child can thrive.”

What’s new at Glenealy School?
An absolute masterclass in creative expression! 🎭✨
Our Year 5 students treated us to a spectacular morning showcasing their learning from the How We Express Ourselves unit. From a high-energy dramatic walking warm-up to an incredible "human gallery" where students wore custom-designed T-shirts featuring their own paintings on the front and bilingual graphic novels on the back; the creativity was off the charts! 🎨
The audience was also treated to a brilliant original song entirely written by the students, featuring movement beautifully choreographed by two of our own class members and performed by all 60 children together. We also enjoyed highly entertaining sock puppet shows, using unique characters that the children designed and created themselves! We even had parents join in the fun with a spirited Readers’ Theatre, proving that a passion for reading and storytelling is truly contagious. 🧦🎶📚
A massive thank you to Mr. Paul McCracken from Island School for his inspiring workshops, and to the brilliant Year 10 Island School students who performed two custom-written plays just for us. This event beautifully highlights the immense creativity of our students and the Year 5 team, alongside the incredible power of collaborating with our partner school. This is exactly what an ESF education is all about! 🌐❤️
On Tuesday morning we welcomed back several ex‑Glenealy students—along with some of their new friends from Island School Year 10—for a special performance for our Year 5 and 6 students. They presented two original plays: one exploring resilience, and another sharing the highs and challenges of starting high school and making new friends. Our students were captivated, inspired, and full of questions afterwards. What a wonderful way to learn from those who once stood exactly where they are now.
A moment of immense pride for our Year 6 artists! 🌟
Last night, we were thrilled to see seven of our students' masterpieces exhibited at the ESF Art Exhibition. Seeing their work presented in a professional gallery setting, alongside such an extraordinary caliber of creativity from across the ESF community, was a truly inspiring experience.
The quality of work across all ESF schools was breathtaking, reflecting a shared commitment to deep inquiry, technical skill, and bold expression. A huge congratulations to our Year 6 risk-takers for their dedication, hard work, and the unique voice they brought to this exhibition. We are so proud to see your creative journeys reaching such a wide and appreciative audience! 🎨✨
The Exhibition is open to the public and runs until Sunday 21st June - don't miss it!

Wow! What a spectacular explosion of song, dance, and music our Year 1 and 2 students shared with us at the Performing Arts Show. It was absolute magic to see the joy on their faces as they shared their learning with everyone.
Great art sparks great conversations 🎨 Captured here are two of our young artists sharing a moment of profound creative reflection, inspired by the expressive ink works of Ma Defan and our Year 5 students
Last week, Glenealy School welcomed 60+ students from 6 ESF Primary Schools for the inaugural ESF Primary Maths Dash - and the energy was absolutely incredible!
Collaborating with peers from across ESF, our learners demonstrated incredible agency, resilience, and flexibility. They debated their solution paths, embraced mistakes as learning opportunities, and showed exactly what Jo Boaler’s "Mathematical Mindsets" look like in action.
A massive thank you to our dedicated team for fostering this love of inquiry. Seeing our students' collaborative spirit and joy for deep problem-solving was a proud moment for our entire community.
Well done to SJS who were our overall winners. Glenealy School finished in second. Congradulations to all of our ESF Mathematicians on a great day!
What a great afternoons cricket from the Glenealy & Kennedy A B & C teams. Their learning & progress this season has been remarkable. Well done cricketers 🏏
Last week, our school transformed into a vibrant, living museum. Our 360 student artists took on the role of docents, guiding families through buzzing spaces filled with an incredible breadth of work including dioramas, ceramics, a bioluminescence gallery, and stunning mixed-media canvases. From Chinese landscapes inspired by the Year 6 camp in Yingde, to the Year 3’s metallic light installation, the depth of conceptual inquiry was incredible. We even celebrated sustainability by weaving our art studio’s protective table paper into a stunning textile masterpiece. A huge congratulations to our courageous student artists. You didn’t just create art, you invited us all into a profound dialogue. Swipe to see our students in action! #PYPArt #CreativeInquiry #StudentAgency #LivingMuseum #SchoolCommunity
Student Achievement: Pari Pari recently won a Bronze medal in the Lower Primary category at the Hong Kong Art Centre for her collage made with recycled materials. Her piece, titled "Collaglacier: Piecing Together a Cooler World," is currently being honored and will be on display at the art centre until 14 June. Congratulations Pari!
Another great morning of sport for Glenealy School. This time, it was the biathletes' turn to represent us at the HKPSSA championships at KGV. Well done, biathletes, you did an amazing job. We're all super proud of you 🏊♀️🏃♂️
