To nurture curious, connected collaborators, we cultivate an overall educational approach that inspires learning both inside and beyond the classroom, fostering a sense of belonging, trust, and creativity. By promoting inclusivity and connection, we create a supportive community where every student feels valued and empowered to contribute.
Our approach is guided by a belief that all young people are capable and bring their own experiences and insights to the learning process. No matter the age of the child, and no matter where they are on the continuum of learning, we believe that all children can be successful.
Our learning provision is based on developing the attributes that children will need to be successful today and in their future lives. The world is changing, and technology is, of course, altering the way we work and live at an incredible pace.
While knowledge and technical skills are still very important, so too is conceptual understanding and approaches to learning that enable students to transfer what they have learned to new and unique situations.
Identity and Belonging
The identity of every member of our community is important at Glenealy School.
Every child at Glenealy School is valued and respected. As a team, we recognise the importance of children creating and developing their self-concepts, feelings of self-worth, and place as part of a local and global community. Through our Units of Inquiry, children explore ‘Who We Are’ over the course of each year, allowing inquiry related to interactions, identity, the human body and making connections to the UN Global Goals (including The Convention on the Rights of the Child). We encourage children to share, and teach others about their own identities and learn about the experiences of others around the world. We value highlighting character strengths and being proud of who we are.

A key motivation at Glenealy School is to cultivate a sense of belonging among all members of our community. Through our curriculum, social experiences and community events, we facilitate open engagement with shared human values and experiences. We believe that children should see, hear, read and experience representations of themselves, their families and humans outside their own lives. We use teaching resources that reflect the diversity of our world. Focussing on being open-minded learners and caring individuals, we seek to give every member of our community opportunities to see life from others’ perspectives and, in the process, ensure everyone feels that they belong at Glenealy School.
Learning Commons
Our Learning Commons is designed to be a collaborative space where individuals can learn together. By integrating various resources—including traditional library materials, digital tools, and educational services—we have provided a versatile environment that supports diverse learning activities. This space encourages children to engage actively with their peers and take ownership of their learning experiences.
The new space has been divided into several areas and named by the children as follows:
- Glenealy Café: The Glenealy Café is a student-accessible kitchen and welcoming community space designed to promote the development of practical life skills, foster a deeper understanding of food and nutrition, and enable exploration of indoor hydroponics.
- CoLab: CoLab is a dedicated collaboration space featuring various work areas, interactive screens and learning tools specifically designed to enhance interaction and teamwork among individual students and groups.
- The Workshop: The Workshop is a learning space that combines technology, creativity, and hands-on learning, allowing children to design, create, and innovate using digital tools and resources.
- Sensory Room: The Sensory Room is a specially designed space that provides a safe and calming environment for children to explore their senses through various stimuli and resources.
